Self-publishing a picture book part 1

It's happening...it's really happening!

I asked one of Kung-Fu "sisters" Lorna Foot, who is an artist, to illustrate my children's books and she is taking up the challenge with great enthusiasm. I asked her just yesterday and she's already done a cover for one of them.
We will be splitting the costs and profits.

We intend to start by paying for a small print run first and selling it ourselves through local bookstores, on the internet and I'll also have it at craft fair booths etc. We'll see how that does before pursuing any other options.

Apparently there are companies who can get you an ISBN number and make the book available through Amazon etc. but it appears these don't tend to do well.

If we do fairly well on our own, we'll look at option after that. Perhaps we'll try to get a traditional publisher to take it up. Or maybe we will do larger runs. Who knows.
Right now all possibilities are open to us.

It's very, very exciting to see one of my characters come to life in artwork. This will be a very enjoyable endeavor regardless of he outcome.

The first of my books we are working on is called "Hal the Unwashed Dragon". It's a pretty simple but funny tale of a friendly dragon who wants everyone to like him but his poor hygiene makes everyone ill. Until he is advised to wash.
I've always had a vision in my head f what the scenes in the story look like so I can't wait to see how my illustrator (I can't believe I get to say that) will interpret them.

Here is the cover of the book!
